Funmilayo Ransome Kuti makes a U-turn from Prime and heads for the cinemas
Bolanle Austen-Peters’ highly anticipated biopic film Funmilayo Ransome Kuti which was originally slated for a Prime Video global release but is now set for a cinema release instead.
The film explores the life of feminist leader and activist Fumilayo Ransome Kuti and her notable achievements towards women’s liberation and Nigeria’s political revolution. Starring in this biopic to bring FRK’s story to life are Iyimade Ayo-Olumoko, Kehinde Bankole, and Joke Silva.

Daniel Oriahi’s The Weekend premieres globally at Tribeca
Oriahi’s feature film The Weekend has made the official selection for this year’s edition of the Tribeca Film Festival. This film is the story of an orphan girl with a deep yearning for family who discovers her fiancé’s family’s hidden secret after meeting them. The racking thriller stars Bucci Franklin, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Meg Otanwa, Gloria Anozie - Young and Damilola Ogunsi.
Yemi Filmboy Morafa’s Aburo prepares for cinema release
Aburo tells the story of a street-smart boy and talented sprinter, Aburo (Fawaz Aina of Ikorodu Bois) who encounters a higher ambition after stealing from an ex-athlete, Mide (Efa Iwara). After Mide notices Aburo’s running speed, he is determined to make him into a star. However, Aburo has to battle the conflict between his new ambition and his street loyalty.
Produced by Sterling Bank in collaboration with Film One, Aburo heads to the cinemas on May 1.
Postcards set for global premiere on Netflix
Hamisha Daryani (Namaste Wahala)’s new Nollywood and Bollywood cros-collaboration, Postcards, has been acquired by Netflix. The series explores the story of four individuals who find themselves in a mix of events when a Nigerian single mother travels to India for a medical checkup.
Starring a blend of Nigerian and Indian actors, including RMD, Sola Sobowale, and Tobi Bakare, the film is set to elicit various emotions from viewers. Postcard premieres on Netflix on May 3.
