For a while now, Inside Nollywood has committed to improving the quality of conversations held around and about the Nigerian film industry. We have shipped interactive products to make this possible, bringing the audiences and the filmmakers closer as well as publishing trends that this ever-growing industry needs to watch out for.
More importantly, we have shone light on topics around quality and standards, insisting that stakeholders on the other end of the aisle — film makers, investors and producers — improve. But there comes a time when we must bring ourselves — film writers and content creators to task and call for a chance to do two things predominantly:
First, improve the quality of existing talents and secondly, invite more talents in and broaden the space.
We have thought hard and long about this, from everything including the structure, to the name, the duration and the personnel we asked to come on this journey with us. The journey starts today with what is the first film fellowship for writers and creators in Nigeria.
We debated for a long time about the word ‘Fellowship’ in an age where there is a need to have a fancy name for everything. We did try several fancy alternatives but none really strongly captured the heart of what we are going to do. If you do find the word, suggest it to us.
For now, we are calling the project ‘Film Content Creation Fellowship’ because we have asked the OGs, rocking the international space and making the Nigerian film community proud, to take time out of their busy schedules to train and teach anyone who needs to brush up their skills or who wants to enter the space.
They have also graciously agreed to not just train, but mentor and do a project or two with successful applicants — actually showing you the ropes.
Okay. We planned to write an actual, formal call for applications but this has made us realise that it is impossible to write to you blandly, without feeling and in straitjacket language. Nollywood is our home and we all need to do better. This is one step towards making sure it happens.
So, if you are interested in joining the Nigerian film content creation space or want to expand your knowledge about the work or know someone who would be interested, apply.
If you are willing to support this work, through contributions of any kind, please do reach out.
And, if you just want to help out but are unsure, just share this link and flyer; or hit us up.
Let us improve the quality of conversations in this industry. The ecosystem needs to grow, for all of us.
PS: We might have forgotten to actually tell you about the core details of the fellowship but don’t worry, the flyer is packed. Literally.
Apply here. Deadline is August 28, 2022.
