This Week in Nollywood is a recapitulation of the significant events in the industry this week. While you were busy chasing the bag during the week, Nollywood was cooking! Here are the things you missed.
Femi Branch, Bisola Aiyeola and other Nollywood actors voice characters in Disney+ animated series, Iwájú
Iwájú, which means ‘the future’ in Yoruba, is an animated series set in a futuristic Lagos. The series is a collaborative project between Pan-African British based entertainment company, Kugali Media and Walt Disney Studios.
It explores the coming of age story of Tola, and her best friend, Kole who is a self-taught tech expert. They both journey and discover the secrets and hidden dangers in their different worlds. Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, the series takes the viewer on a unique adventure bustling with technological and visual elements, which according to Disney, is inspired by the spirit of Lagos.
Iwájú stars actors Simisola Gbadamosi, Femi Branch, Dayo Okeniyi, Siji Soetan and Weruche Opia.
The series begins streaming on Disney+ on February 28.
Showmax set to release Flawsome Season 2
After a successful first season run, the AMVCA nominated series is gearing up for its second season.
Flawsome follows the story of four friends; ifeyinwa (Bisola Aiyeola), Ramat (Ini Dima – Okojie), Dolapo (Enado Odigie), and Ivie (Sharon Ooja). They all face different challenges ranging from career to family and relationships.
Season two is set to explore the lives of these women deeper and viewers can also expect to see resolutions in each of the characters’ lives. Other actors like Gabriel Afolayan, Eso Dike, and Baaj Adebule are expected to reprise their roles on the show.
Flawsome season two airs on Showmax on February 12.

Sabinus and Sharon Ooja star in upcoming romantic comedy, Dead Serious
Actress Sharon Ooja and Comedian Sabinus play lovers in Moses Inwang’s romcom, Dead Serious. Inwang’s Netflix original feature film Blood Vessel, got a lot of recognition last year after it reached the number one most-watched non-English film on Netflix.
Other actors appearing in the upcoming film include Deyemi Okanlawon and Nkem Owoh.
Dead Serious comes to the cinemas on February 9.

Comedy series The Interview comes on Youtube
Film production company, House 21 TV is set to release a web comedy series titled The Interview. Directed by rapper and actor, Folarin Falana, the series stars comic acts Layi Wasabi, Basketmouth, and Broda Shaggy; and actors Akah Nnani, Yvonne Jegede, and Genoveva Umeh.
The series is out on YouTube on January 25.

When Are We Getting Married gears for Season 2 release
RedTV’s romantic drama series, When AreWe Getting Married is coming for a second season. The first season delved into the story of two young lovers, Edith (Immaculata Oko-Kasum) and Fenwa (Ric Hassani) who move in together and try their best to make their relationship work despite their chemistry, in the face of their fears, past and the world.
The series stars other actors like Ronke Oshodi, Martha Ehiome, Neo Akpofure, Patrick Doyle, and Vee Iye.
Season two returns to YouTube on February 14.

Mami Wata earns an NAACP Nomination
The NAACP image awards nominations are up and CJ Obasi’s feature film Mami Wata has earned a spot in the outstanding international motion picture category. This nomination comes alongside other films like Anatomy of a Fall and Rye Lane.
Final decision and winner will be announced at the awards event on March 16.
