A Tribe Called Judah and Record-Breaking Box Office Numbers
Funke Akindele took the box office by storm with an opening weekend that grossed 122 million naira, the biggest opening ever for a Nollywood film. This number is set to keep climbing in the coming weeks as the film keeps amassing critical acclaim and increasing positive reviews.
A Tribe Called Judah is still showing in cinemas nationwide and travels to UK theatres on 29th December.
Toyin Abraham’s ‘Malaika’ Premieres
Malaika premiered on Sunday and featured a series of star-studded appearances. The Toyin Abraham film is the third anticipated feature film of the December box office battle. The film officially comes to cinemas on Friday, December 22, having been slated for advanced screenings nationwide.
‘Love and Life’ premieres, comes on Amazon by December 29
Directed by the talented Ruben Reng and written by Brenda Ogbuka-Garuba, Love and Life follows the lives of three women who have to deal with different relationship challenges. They are thus faced with the journey of rediscovery and empowerment. This further affirms the film’s central theme, which spotlights resilience in human connections.
Love and Life features an ensemble cast of some of Nollywood’s most acclaimed actors, including Rita Dominic, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Michelle Dede, Chidi Mokeme, Anthony Monjaro and Ray Adeka, and is the second release in a twelve-film slate scheduled under the First Features initiative, a groundbreaking project aimed at empowering the next generation of Nigerian film directors.
Other upcoming projects in the First Features Project lineup include A Danfo Christmas, Almajiri, Wish Upon a Star, Katangari Comes to Town At Ease, and Your Move.
Love and Life is set to release on Prime Video on December 29, 2023.
Nollywood films on Netflix ranked for the first half of 2023
Nigerian films released in the first six months of 2023 have been ranked on Netflix based on the number of hours watched. According to Shock NG, Shanty Town heralded the list as the best-performing Nigerian title, with 27.3 million hours watched. Ebonylife’s A Sunday Affair came a close second with a total of 9.3 million hours watched.
Agemo Teases Photos Ahead of 2024
Related Motions Studios is set to release Agemo, its supernatural thriller, and published teaser photos in anticipation. Directed by Moshood Abiola Obatula, Agemo traverses themes of secrecy, manipulation and power relations in a tale of a young lady who unveils buried dark secrets.

Though with no official release date yet, the film is expected to be released in 2024.
